Matangi Moments: Die sieben letzten Worte
Join us for Matangi Moments, an atmospheric concert series in which the sublime world of the string quartet is explored in surprising ways by Matangi, one of the most renowned and versatile ensembles in the Netherlands.
Matangi Moments ranges from timeless classical masterpieces to surprising and genre-defying collaborations.
The most well-known alternative to Bach's St. Matthew Passion is undoubtedly Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze by Haydn. These seven sonatas for string quartet, with their narrative character, are truly impressive. The slow tempos of the dramatic opening, all seven movements, and the overall length of the piece transport you into an almost trance-like state; an hour of adagios filled with so many different atmospheres and emotions, only to be suddenly disrupted by the bombastic and shocking earthquake (Terremoto) at the end.
April 18 8.30 p.m. - Nieuwe Kerk, Den Haag
April 20 3.30 p.m. - Amstelkerk, Amsterdam
