Matangi Moments - Ruins and Remains

The Edison Award-winning album "Ruins and Remains" will be performed live during Matangi Moments in 2024. Together with pianist Wolfert Brederode and drummer/percussionist Joost Lijbaart, we will preform this on January 19 at 8:30 PM in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague and on January 21 at 3:30 PM in the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam.

"Ruins and Remains" is a suite for piano, string quartet, and percussion, composed by Wolfert Brederode in 2018 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Over time, the piece has taken on meanings that are broader and more personal, resonating deeply. Dutch pianist Brederode describes it on multiple levels as a work connected to grief, loss, and the ability to rise again. The music is characterized by a vulnerable yet resilient nature, floating across emotional terrain with moods that are both somber and cautiously hopeful.

Het concert op 19 januari in de Nieuwe Kerk te Den Haag heeft een gigantische indruk op me gemaakt.
Alles klopte maar de percussie steeg daar voor mij nog bovenuit.
